MCF Technologie GmbH delivers high-quality products and services in measurement and testing technologies, special machines and production machinery. The satisfaction of our customers and the quality of their products have top priority for us.

Partnership with OpenTAP

MCF and Keysight have been connected through a trusted, long-standing collaboration for many years. Addressing numerous customer projects, MCF integrates Keysight test and measurement instruments, gaining extensive hands-on experience with their reliability, accuracy, easy integration and precision in demanding development and production environments.

The strategic partnership combines Keysight measurement expertise and the OpenTAP ecosystem with the MCF capabilities as an experienced special-purpose test system builder. In this context, MCF acts as a partner for customer-specific and application-driven test system solutions, enabling Keysight to address complex or highly customized customer requirements more effectively. The advantage of this approach is that MCF consistently builds its test systems on Keysight hardware and OpenTAP as the software foundation, ensuring technical coherence, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

Robin Volz, CTO
“Building on a foundation of ready-to-deploy technology, MCF and Keysight jointly aim to increase adoption of OpenTAP in Europe by delivering practical, production-ready solutions rather than one-off technology demonstrations. ”

MCF supports customers by developing OpenTAP-based test solutions, plugins to extend functionality of OpenTAP or to integrate hardware and advising companies that plan to transition their existing test systems to the OpenTAP framework.

How MCF uses OpenTAP : Tap.X

OpenTAP provides an excellent foundation for test sequence execution and hardware integration. Its open, plugin-based architecture and vendor-neutral approach make it a strong core engine for defining, executing, and evaluating test sequences across development and production environments.

However, a complete software solution for industrial production test systems requires additional capabilities beyond pure test execution. In real-world production environments, test software must address a wide range of requirements, such as role-specific user interfaces for operators, test and quality engineers, and production management; centralized management of tests and devices under test (DUTs); controlled adjustment of test parameters; variant handling of test plans; parallel testing on multiple fixtures; full traceability of changes including approval workflows and audit trails; seamless PLC integration; and dynamic test plan selection based on scanned identifiers such as barcodes.

To address these requirements, MCF has developed Tap.X, a comprehensive software solution that builds on OpenTAP as the underlying test sequence engine. Tap.X extends OpenTAP into a full-featured test system software platform, covering the operational, organizational, and usability aspects required in modern production environments. While Tap.X serves as the software foundation for MCF’s own test systems, it is also available to customers who build their own test hardware and are looking for a powerful, open, and production-ready software framework.

Tap.X Framework Features

Tap.X follows a widget-based, no-code approach, allowing user interfaces and workflows to be adapted easily to project-specific requirements without writing application code. It integrates seamlessly with OpenTAP and PLC programs and provides an app-like, touch-optimized user interface for test systems. By leveraging OpenTAP’s plugin structure for test logic and hardware integration, the overall system remains fully open, extensible, and future-proof, while Tap.X ensures that the solution meets the practical demands of industrial test operations.

Tap.X Highlights

In January 2026, MCF announced Tap.X, a solution that offers a flexible, app-like user experience for test systems. Screens for production views, dashboards, and statistical analyses can be configured individually—similar to organizing the home screen on a smartphone. Users can decide which information from the test sequence or the PLC is displayed, how it is arranged, and which views are available to which user roles.

This approach allows operators, test and QA engineers and production management to work with exactly the information they need, without unnecessary complexity. By combining role-based views with a configurable, no-code UI, Tap.X adapts seamlessly to project-specific workflows and changing requirements. These capabilities make Tap.X an ideal framework for both development and production test systems, ensuring usability, clarity, and efficiency across all user types and groups involved in the test process.
